High Speed Boat Training

TITLE OF COURSE: Response vessel Maneuvering and High Speed Piloting course
TRAINING SITES: Destin FL, USA
LENGTH OF TRAINING: 1 week or 5 working days
NUMBER OF ACADEMIC HOURS: 40 hours (70 % at sea)
IMPLEMENTATION DATES OF THE CURRICULUM: 23-27 March 2020
COURSE MISSION:
The purpose of the course is to instruct the trainees on the SAFEBOAT 25 foot Response Boat
vessel including basic/advanced operations, daily inspections and preventive maintenance. All
classes will be taught in English.
COURSE FOCUS:
- Boat characteristics
- Handling the vessel
- All boat systems including but not limited to engine, hydraulic, propeller, trim tabs, batteries
- Performance of abnormal non-standard operations to include: towing (long/short/alongside), single-engine maneuvering
- Pre/post-operational checks
- Mission planning
- Operational risk management
- Piloting
- Navigation (chart plotting, underway dead reckoning, wave, current, tides)
- Radar/GPS/sounder/Navigation software
- Night underway navigation
- Man Overboard, victim recovery, wave riding
- Vessel trailing procedures and practical’s
- Evolutions management, leadership roles and responsibilities on board
- Administer assessment exams to measure attainment
- Students will be provided an end of course critique opportunity
Post Training report:
The Post Training Report and Operations Report will be developed and delivered within 3 weeks of the end of the course. The report will include the following items:
- Course data information – dates, location, and instructors
- Key Statistics from the class
- Mission data – hours underway, nautical miles traveled, number of times refueled, fuel used, fuel cost, and any issues
- Student roster (including rate/rank and command)– and any attendance issues
- Practical application hours trained
PREREQUISTES: Member of operational Law Enforcement, Fire department, Corrections, Military or specialized contractor organization/unit/agency with a requirement to be able to perform this training
METHOD OF INSTRUCTION: Theoretical in classroom and practical at sea
INSTRUCTOR/TRAINEE RATIO:
Class load will have a class maximum of twelve (10) students, with a minimum of six (6) students required to hold the course. All applicable safety requirements shall be adhered to during preparation for conduct of the training.
